For pure entertainment, college basketball cannot be beat.
It is a fast paced game with young men playing for the love
of the game. Unlike the players in NBA jerseys who play for
the money as much as the game. Where you see selfish players
in the NBA, you won’t see that in college basketball. College
basketball is more of a team sport. If you can go to and NBA
game and then go to a college game, I am sure you will enjoy
the college game much more. The atmosphere is completely
different and a whole lot more fun. Plus, the tickets and parking
are much cheaper.
Did you waste your time watching the Pro Bowl.
It is a meaningless game that the NFL should get
rid of. Many of the first team selections don’t even
play in it. If I was a player and got selected, I would
go because it is a free vacation to Hawaii and I could use my
new NFL luggage tags that I got for Christmas. Lots of good
food and drink, belly dances to watch and partying with
friends. If I was going to play in the game I would not play
very hard because a severe injury could end my career, which
is why some many players don’t go. If they are going to continue
the Pro Bowl, they should move it back after the Super Bowl like
they used to so the best players will go.
Tom Brady of the New England Patriots will be playing in his 5th
Super Bowl this Sunday. The only other quarterback to play in 5
is John Elway of the Broncos. Elway lost 3 and won 2, retiring after
the second Super Bowl win in 1998. Elway is also the oldest quarterback
to ever win a Super Bowl. He was 38 when he won his second one. If you
look at the stats, Brady is a much better Super Bowl quarterback. In 4 games,
Brady has 1 interception and 7 touchdowns. Elway in 5 games has 8 interceptions
and only 3 touchdowns. Elway is in the Hall of Fame and Brady will go for sure.
My guess is Brady will have another NFL fitted cap on Sunday with the Super Bowl
logo in it.
One more football game to go and then it’s time to put
your NFL jerseys away and pull put your NBA jerseys or
your hockey jerseys. I say only one more football game
because I do not count the Pro Bowl as a football game.
None of the players really want to play in it, If they did,
you would not have second and third alternates playing.
Instead of playing the game, they should have all the Pro
Bowl players introduced at half time of the Super Bowl. That
way we wouldn’t have to watch those horrible half time shows.
Playing at the professional level in sports is most likely
the dream of every college athlete. From the guys with
shoulder pads on to the boys in college basketball shorts
or the hockey player. And why not, even though the odds
are greatly against you. If you make it, you live the life of
a king and have as much money as one. Most won’t make it
so I hope they take their free education seriously and prepare
for a life outside sports. That will be difficult for many of them
because they have been playing sports their whole lives and have
been the center of attention as well.
Peyton Manning is done with the Colts. All the writing is on
the wall. The owner has said he will take a quarterback in the
first round. Manning is due 26 million dollars or so in March,
has had 3 neck surgeries and is 36 years old. If his neck is healthy,
he has a few years left to play, it just won’t be with the Colts. He
would be a bad investment if the Colts take Andrew Luck as they
surely will. Whose NFL apparel will Manning wear if he plays next
year, nobody knows. Being a Bronco fan I hope it’s here.
Josh McDaniels the boy wonder offensive coordinator
is back with New England. He was hired away from New England
to be the head coach of the Denver Broncos. After less than two
years, he was fired as head coach. With his time in Denver, he
completely ruined the team. From there he was the offensive
of another team that went nowhere. Now he is back with New
England wearing another NFL fitted cap and a chance to win a second
Super Bowl and be the offensive coordinator for them next year. What luck this
guy has. He goes from being fired, to doing a lousy job with
another team and back to the Patriots to coach one of the best
quarterbacks to ever play the game. Wish I was that lucky.
The long standing coach at Penn State, Joe Paterno has died.
Though he was fired because of a sex scandal involving one of
his coaches, Paterno should be remembered of all the great things
he did. Paterno has won more games than any division one coach,
409 total. If you wore a football jersey, were just a college student
or wore college basketball shorts, Paterno treated you the same. He
was a teacher of men. He taught how to get along in life, not just in
sports. Beloved by many, we will never see a coach like him again.
It’s time to start planning for the Super Bowl. Will you go
to a bar and watch it with friends. Will you stay at home and
and just watch it with your family or will you invite a few friends
over. The Super Bowl is like Thanksgiving to me, except we cook
different foods than turkey. We’ll invite a few friends over, cook
some great shrimp on the grill and have a few beers. My friend Phil
will show up in his MLB apparel because he thinks the world revolves
around baseball, but there will be nothing but football talk that day or
talk about the commercials. Phil will just have to wait.
Can Eli Manning hoist another Super Bowl Trophy this year?
The odds are greatly against him. First he needs to get past the
49ers tomorrow in San Francisco which will be a tough job.
If he is successful in that and the Ravens beat the Patriots he has
a good chance. If the Patriots win and he has to face Tom Brady
and company he has no chance. The Patriots, one of the best teams
to wear NFL jerseys of all times and 1 game away from a perfect season
before Manning and the Giants upset them in Super Bowl won’t let that
happen. If it’s the Patriots verses the Giants, my money is on Brady.
