What do you think is the biggest rivalry in all of sports. Do you think
it’s the Yankees and red Socks. Maybe a couple of hockey teams. Or how
about Tiger and Phil in golf. I think the biggest rivalry in sports is in football.
But it’s not one team verses another. It is the starting quarterbacks. One is out
playing and the other is on the sidelines in his NFL fitted cap trying to take his
job. It is the most important position in sports. Brett Favre didn’t even talk to
Rodgers after Rodgers was drafted in the first round. He was quoted as saying,
why should I help a guy who is trying to take my job. Joe Montana completely
ignored Steve Young. Imagine the rivalry we will see if the Colts draft Luck and
keep Manning.
If your a sports fan, you have to love this time of year. There is so much going on that with limited hours to watch it’s hard to decided what to watch.
Here is most everything going on. NBA basketball just came off the all star game and is starting the second half of the season. College basketball is in full swing with the Final Four coming up. The PGA is going strong with a tournament every weekend. Major League Baseball is in spring training with the regular season just a few weeks away. Plus NFL football is always going. They are having the college players working out for the pro teams now. Plus you have NASCAR which just started up for the season with the Daytona 500 on Monday. And lets not forget all the boys on skates wearing their over sized shirts with their NHL logos on them.
You were all set up for the big race, the first NASCAR race of the
season. Danica Patricks first big Nascar race. You sat and sat and
then had to turn off your TV. For the first time in it’s 54 year history,
the Daytona 500 was canceled. Rain pelted the course all day. Drivers
were wearing jackets over their Nascar shirts because it was cold and most
had umbrellas. The 500 mile race will be run today, weather permitting.
I will have to record it and watch tonight because Monday is a work day.
The Daytona 500 is this weekend, Sunday for all you racing fans.
This is also the start of Danica Patrick’s NASCAR career. You can
be sure all the hype will be about her and all the men will have to
take a second seat. And why not, nobody looks as good as her in a drivers
seat. She will definitely bring much need publicity to the sport. With her
in NASCAR there will be a greater following of both men and women.
For more pictures of her, just look on the net. And one thing is for sure,
nobody but nobody will look as good as her wearing NASCAR jackets.
The Super Bowl has just ended and with that the end of the season. But the new season is now underway.
With baseball just beginning with spring training, football is not far behind. Free agency is close at hand
and the draft is not far behind. Players are working out around the country. Used to be that football was a
6 month sport. Now it is a full time job for both players and coaches. Although baseball, hockey and basketball
seem to have an off season, football does not. Hard to believe because the boys in the NFL jerseys play the least amount
of games by far. I don’t feel sorry for them though. I only get 2 weeks off a year and I sure don’t make millions. I guess
my market value is not what theirs is.
Nothing says spring like baseball. With pitchers and catchers
reporting today and the rest of the players in a few more days,
I know that winter is almost over and warm weather is on the way.
Soon it will be time to look at the green grass instead of the snow.
Soon it will be time to take in the smell of the green grass instead of
the gasoline I put in my snow blower. And soon I will be able to put
away my winter hats and pull out my baseball caps with my favorite
MLB logos on them. Soon, very soon.
Danica Patrick is moving from Indy racing to NASCAR. One thing
for sure, in this male dominated sport is that she will really brighten it
up. This will be one of the best NASCAR gifts the sport has gotten in a
long time. With her beautiful looks and personality she will surely make
the ratings go up. Most of the fans are getting tired of the bickering between
all the male drivers and their big egos. Danica will be a refreshing addition to
the sport that needs a shot in the arm.
First the country had Tebow mania, now they have Lin insanity.
What is it with everybody and their obsession with sports people.
If Lin was a black or white player would he be receiving all the attention
he is getting now because he is Asian. If Tebow was not so religious would
he be receiving all the attention he gets. These are just two guys who play
a game. One in an NBA jersey and one in an NFL jersey. I enjoy the games,
but I will never understand the obsession some people have for the players.
It’s the same thing with actors and the obsession people have for them. Maybe
it’s media generated so they can sell all those papers and magazines.
Will Peyton Manning be with the Colts next season. Not unless he
agrees to a restructured contract for far less money than he is
scheduled to make. With the Colts ready to take Luck, they cannot
afford Manning at his current rate. That being said, Manning has to
much pride to do that. Also the Colts and Manning do not know if his
neck will ever heal properly. Manning will play someplace else next
season, provided he can pass a physical and will play for far less money
than he is accustomed to making. It sure won’t seem the same to see
manning wearing some other teams NFL jerseys next season.
Is Tiger Woods done as the best player on the planet to ever
play golf? He’s probably done having affairs, that didn’t work
out to well for him, but is his dominance in golf over. If Woods
was a fighter in MMA shorts he would be bloody and bruised with
the thrashing Phil Mickelson gave him on Sunday. Starting the
round, Woods was 2 strokes ahead of Mickelson. At the end, Phil
was 9 strokes ahead and the winner. Tiger has lost his edge and that
killer instinct that made his so great as a golfer. He still must have
demons in his head for being a lousy husband and father and his
golf game may never be the same.
