The NFL rules committee has made changes in the rules for the
upcoming season. The biggest change and the one needed the most is the
overtime rule. The overtime rule implemented during the post season will
now be applied during the regular season. No more sudden death. It was
deemed unfair that if you win the coin toss and went down and kicked a
filed goal that the game ended there. Now the opposing team will get a
chance to do the same. If a team wins the coin toss and scores a touch
down, the game will end. The NFL toys with the rule changes every year,
and this time they got one correct.

With the one year suspension of head coach Sean Payton by the NFL for allowing bounties by his players, the
Saints are looking for a head coach. Payton and Parcells played golf together yesterday during a break in the
owners meetings. Was this just a friendly outing or were they discussing the possibility of Parcells filling in for
one year. Payton’s team got some hefty NFL flags thrown their way. Besides Payton’s 1 year suspension, they lost
2 draft choices, were fined $5oo,000 and lost a few more coaches to suspensions. Will Parcells want to coach for
one more year? He is seventy years old and if he does coach again, it will back up his chances of getting into the
hall of fame 5 more years.

If you look at all the sports uniforms throughout the years,
many have changed drastically. Basketball uniforms have
changed in looks and colors. Nothing from ten years ago looks
like it does today. Football has changed in colors quite a bit.
College uniforms have gotten super colorful with some
bordering on neon colors. I’m glad to see that MLB apparel
has not changed much during the years. They have stayed
pretty loyal the the tradition of the old uniforms. What would
baseball be if they took out the pin stripes or added the ugly
colors many other teams are going with. Tradition in sports
is a great thing and it’s sad to see so many other sports getting
away from it.

The media circus of Tim Tebow has left Denver and moved to New York.
Tebow will now have a jet on his NFL fitted cap instead of a Bronco.
According to the Broncos, they gave Tebow a choice of going to New York
or Jacksonville Florida. He chose New York. Why he did this is up to
speculation. Many people think he chose New York because it is a
bigger media market and he will make more money outside of football
there than he would have in Jacksonville.

The New Orleans Saints have had several NFL flags thrown at them for their bounty program. Several coaches
were suspended. Head coach Sean Payton received the most severe penalty. He was suspended for the entire
2012 season, the most severe penalty the league has ever given to a coach. The Saints also lost 2 second round
draft choices, 1 in 2012 and one in 2013. The team was also fined 500,000 dollars. Starting quarterback Drew
Breeze said he was shocked by the news. Bounties in the NFL are illegal and the Saints put them on several
quarterbacks, most notably Brett Farve. This is fair discipline for the Saints. Playing hard is one thing, trying to
intentionally hurt a player is another.

The Miami Dolphins are big losers. Not only in their record, but in their recruiting. Seems
nobody wants to play for them, at least good quarterbacks. The Dolphins lost out in the Peyton
Manning sweepstakes as did several other teams. Then they brought in Matt Flynn who said no
and signed with the Seahawks. Then they brought in Alex Smith of the 49′ers who said no. Last
year they could have gotten Denver’s starting quarterback Kyle Orton, but he said no. Finally they
got their man, David Garrard, who didn’t even play last year. I wonder what is so bad about Miami.
Is it the ownership, the coaches or the team in general. Is sure can’t be the weather and living on
the ocean. Maybe it’s the powder blue/turquoise NFL jerseys that the players don’t like.

Hey all you Bronco fans, it’s time to say goodbye to Tim. With the
signing of Manning, it’s a good bet that Tebow will no longer be a
Bronco. With all of Tebows NFL gifts, staying in the pocket and
throwing the football to someone was not one of them. The Broncos
never believed they could win a championship with Tebows type of
play or that he could improve enough to be a great NFL
quarterback. It’s hard to say where Tebow will play next year,
because most teams would not want to put up with tebowmania.
Jacksonville is the best bet, because he played in Florida in college
and he certainly would bring in the fans.

John Elway and John Fox finally got the quarterback they wanted.
Peyton Manning will be calling signals in Broncos NFL apparel next
season. With his age of 36 and a bad neck, Manning will likely get a
90 million contract or so to play for Elway. It’s a big risk for the Broncos,
but could also be a huge bonanza if he wins a Super Bowl for them.
The Broncos have greatly upgraded the quarterback position with Manning
who is in the top 5 quarterbacks to ever play the game.

For all of us college basketball fans, this is the greatest sporting event
of the year. March Madness is upon us. So much basketball with meaningful
games, we can almost get a natural high from it. As you sit in front of your TV,
you will see more college basketball jerseys than you will anything else in the
coming weeks. The best and most exciting stories from this is the upsets that
the underdogs deliver to the top teams. I like nothing better than a good upset.
Who will be the Cinderella story this year? I don’t know, but one thing is for
sure, there will be one.

Peyton Manning was supposed to make a decision at the start of free agency
as to what team he was going to play for. This is the second day of free agency
and Sir Manning has not decided what NFL fitted cap he will be wearing for
the upcoming season. It seems like it is between Tennessee and Denver. The
sooner he makes his decision the better off these two teams are so they can
focus on free agents with or without him. Being a class guy, I would expect
him to make his decision today and not leave these teams in the dark
